Who is George Soros?

Perhaps you've heard George Soros' recent comment at Davos. Though, until the last day or two, the comments have received little notice.

But if you have not, here they are:

"The United States is now recognizing the errors it had made in Iraq, [Soros] said, adding, “To what extent it recognizes the mistake will determine its future.” Mr. Soros said Turkey and Japan were still hurt by a reluctance to admit to dark parts of their history, and contrasted that reluctance to Germany’s rejection of its Nazi-era past.

“America needs to follow the policies it has introduced in Germany,” he said. “We have to go through a certain de-Nazification process.”"

And who is this man claiming that in order for things to get back to the correct path, hawks must be gotten rid of, like Nazis after WWII? Presumably by jailing them, putting them to death and other such niceties. Or what else did Soros mean by using this language?

Marc Shulman at American Future, points to a Martin Peretz article at The New Republic (subscription only, so I'm quoting Shulman here) containing mind boggling information about who George Soros is. The history of George, from George's own lips:

On December 20, 1998, there appeared this exchange between Soros and Steve Kroft on "60 Minutes":

Kroft: "You're a Hungarian Jew …"

Soros: "Mm-hmm."

Kroft: "... who escaped the Holocaust …"

Soros: "Mm-hmm."

Kroft: "... by posing as a Christian."

Soros: "Right."

Kroft: "And you watched lots of people get shipped off to the death camps."

Soros: "Right. I was 14 years old. And I would say that that's when my character was made."

Kroft: "In what way?"

Soros: "That one should think ahead. One should understand that—and anticipate events and when, when one is threatened. It was a tremendous threat of evil. I mean, it was a—a very personal threat of evil."

Kroft: "My understanding is that you went … went out, in fact, and helped in the confiscation of property from the Jews."

Soros: "Yes, that's right. Yes."

Kroft: "I mean, that's—that sounds like an experience that would send lots of people to the psychiatric couch for many, many years. Was it difficult?"

Soros: "Not, not at all. Not at all. Maybe as a child you don't … you don't see the connection. But it was—it created no—no problem at all."

Kroft: "No feeling of guilt?"

Soros: "No."

Kroft: "For example, that, 'I'm Jewish, and here I am, watching these people go. I could just as easily be these, I should be there.' None of that?"

Soros: "Well, of course, ... I could be on the other side or I could be the one from whom the thing is being taken away. But there was no sense that I shouldn't be there, because that was—well, actually, in a funny way, it's just like in the markets—that is I weren't there—of course, I wasn't doing it, but somebody else would—would—would be taking it away anyhow. And it was the—whether I was there or not, I was only a spectator, the property was being taken away. So the—I had no role in taking away that property. So I had no sense of guilt."

Peretz's conclusion:

So this is the psychodrama that has been visited on American liberalism. We learn Soros never has nightmares. Had he been tried in a de-Nazification process for having been a young cog in the Hitlerite wheel, he would have felt that, since other people would have confiscated the same Jewish property and delivered the same deportation notices to the same doomed Jews, it was as if he hadn't done it himself. He sleeps well, while we sleep in Nazi America.

I was 14 years old. And I would say that that's when my character was made.

And this is the same amoral character that chooses to compare us to Nazis, who himself joined with the Nazis, because such behavior had become normative. And he himself places no judgement on his past actions - certainly not publicly, and to judge by the measure of his deeds, not privately either. Clearly, he is ready to turn on anyone, to have loyalty to no one, as long as the "market" - by which he means social norms deranged by wartime - might possibly permit it.

This strikes me as sociopathic.

Britains Are Nazis, Too

Not just the Jews Israel, but Britain too, has become Nazi-like.

A senior Muslim invoked Hitler's 1930s Nazi regime while attacking the [British] Government over its treatment of British Muslims.

In a presentation to MPs, Mr Bari went so far as to ask: "What is the degree of xenophobia that tipped Germany in the 1930s towards a murderous ethnic and cultural racism?" ...


Mr Bari, the head of the Muslim Council of Britain, criticised the Government for "unfairly targeting" Muslims, and said that it was undermining their status as "equal citizens".

"In recent months there has been a veritable drip-feed of ministerial statements stigmatising an entire community. We have seen ministers' tours and even legislation being proposed on the premise that 'mosques are a problem'.

"We have been told to accept that greater numbers of Muslims will be stopped and searched and also to 'inform on our children'. You will understand our worry about where all this is leading. Some Muslims have even sought the MCB's advice on whether they should change their names in order to avoid remarks.

Mr Bari also rejected Tony Blair's call for Muslims to do more to fight terrorism. He put the responsibility squarely at the door of the Government...

Mr Bari later said: "Politicians have failed to consider underlying causes of Muslim disaffection and have reacted hastily by over-legislating.

Uh huh. If you only were understanding about why these poor folks - poor in a metaphorical sense, because the majority of suicide bombers are comfortably middle class - became suicide bombers to begin with than you would be more understanding and would not create laws to prosecute them to thereby protect society.

And in an irony - after invoking the "Nazi-horror" to explain the horror of Britain's current existential state vis-a-vis its Muslim minority, Mr. Bari called for the continued boycotting by the Muslim Council of Holocaust Memorial Day in Britain.

Considering these Muslim folk are currently undergoing a "Nazi-like holocaust" in Britain by a British Nazi perpetrator, you can understand their point, can't you. They're obviously victims of a Holocaust, too.

Mr. Bari also said: "We know what happened in Nazi Germany and we have to be on guard against entire communities being demonised due to the actions of a minority."

Oh, so Jews were demonized during the Nazi Holocaust. That's all that happened to them, then. I always wondered.

Frankly, all this is just provides more support for Aayan Hirsi Ali's recent op ed in the LA Times, explaining that many Muslims never learn the first thing about the Holocaust.

Western leaders today who say they are shocked by Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad's conference this week denying the Holocaust need to wake up to that reality. For the majority of Muslims in the world, the Holocaust is not a major historical event that they deny. We simply do not know it ever happened because we were never informed of it.

I suspect many, many otherwise "well-educated" Americans also fall into the same category, which explains their profligate use of the term Nazi vis-a-vis Bush's handling of the US during his Administration. That is, they've heard about the Holocaust, but know very few actual details about it besides generalities.
